The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that we must remove more than 10 gigatons of CO2 per year for the next 50 years even if we completely decarbonize the economy. Basic Dust will meet this need by applying the concept of rock weathering (adding finely pulverized alkaline rock powder to water and land) to mineralize carbon dioxide into bicarbonates and permanently remove it from the atmosphere. The Basic Dust team is made up of process engineers, entrepreneurs, and quarry experts. We identify the right scientific approach for each project, assemble the relevant resources, deal with intermodal transportation of materials, secure the permits, and oversee securitization of the carbon credits.

Furthermore, there may be co-benefits to adding alkaline material to water and farm soil. Adding alkaline dust to waters with high CO2 concentration greatly reduces the acidity of the water (reversing years of pollution). Adding basalt powder to farm land has been shown to improve soil quality and increase crop yields. As a site owner working with Basic Dust, you get to keep all the upside from the co-benefits!
